Co-founded and run by Mina Tinaburri and Urich Ernitz, since 1995. The Atelier für physisches Theater (APT) is an independent international theatre centre which is constantly researching, promoting and developing physical theatre. The APT is affiliated to the Theater Absurda Comica as a production platform.
The Atelier provides training workshops for artists involved in the fields of Acting, Mime, Dance, Physical Theatre and Theatre Pedagogy. The APT realizes theatre projects and trainings at state and private acting schools, theatrepedagogy institutions and on the fringe theatre scene.
Since 2004 the Atelier presents the one and only two year professional training programme in physical theatrein Germany, according to the theatre making methods of Jacques Copeau and Jacques Lecoq. The training programme differentiates from conventional theatre making training methods so as to give theatre a new and lively impulse.
The students of the APT are coming from different European and Extraeuropean countries, such as Germany, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, South-Africa and U.S.A.
The different languages of the students flow into the lectures as well as the theatre making of the Atelier, whereby these languages are used as material.
The teaching method of the Atelier für physisches Theater integrates the different styles of theatre focused on the body language being the main theatre instrument of the performer.
The main goal of the work is theatre play, as the basic ground to a communicating relationship between the performer and the audience.
is devoted to the discovery of the physical elements within the art of acting, through the observation of the dynamics of nature with the support of the neutral mask, the „re-creation“ of the world, grounded on the the play of masks , the materials and object theatre, as well as the analysis of movement.
is focused on the analysis of the theatrical dynamics which determine the phenomenon of the comic, tragic, grotesque and fantastical, in relation to dance, music and the fine arts. The professional training programme does not only develop an interpretative research, but also communicates a complex view of the theatrical scene, script work, scenic rhythm, directing. Therefore in the second year the aims of a freelance theatrical artistic career are presented (Management, Funding possibilities, Theatre networks, Insurance and Contract questions etc...)
is not the re-production of an already existing theatrical style, but rather to equip the students with the tools, to discover their own artistic nouances, poetic personality and madness embedded in geniusness, so as to develop original, innovative Theatre.
Regularly the students will receive themes to direct in groups or alone. Periodically the work will be presented in fringe theatre venues in Berlin.
The programme presented by the Atelier aims to target artists actively involved in acting, mime, dance and movement acting as well as persons with less theatrical experience, all who want to work with intensive rhythm and professional aims concerning the dramatic creative process through movement and improvisation.
